Real jobs, real diagnoses — what actually happened

No testimonials, no borrowed star ratings. Just jobs we did, what the car was doing, and what it turned out to be.

Why this page exists

Anyone can put a five-star badge on a website. We’d rather show you the work — the actual call-outs, the diagnosis, and what it took to get the car back on the road.

Some of these jobs were straightforward. Some were not. One had already been «repaired» by someone else before it reached us. We’ve written them the way we’d tell them to a customer standing next to the car.

Details are anonymised — no names, no plates, no addresses. What’s written here is what actually happened.

Job 1 · Alternator

Stranded in Valencia — and it wasn’t a language problem

A Spanish driver, Spanish car, Spanish insurance — and still stuck. The alternator had failed and the car was dead.

His own insurance wouldn’t arrange the recovery, so we found a recovery truck ourselves, got the car moved the same day, fitted the alternator and he picked it up the next morning.

People assume the problem on this coast is the language. It isn’t. The problem is that nothing moves quickly — and that happens to Spanish drivers just as much as it happens to you.

Job 2 · Starter motor · Weekend

A motorhome, a dead starter, and a family due to drive home

The starter motor gave up the day before they were due to set off. Every workshop was shut for the weekend.

We came out on the Saturday, confirmed it was the starter and not the battery, got the part in, and fitted it first thing Monday. The family drove home on schedule.

This is why we work weekends. A workshop that opens on Monday is no use to someone whose plans are on Sunday.

Job 3 · Wiring loom

A twenty-year-old Opel, and a repair somebody had already botched

Rear window stuck half open, central locking dead across the whole car, boot that wouldn’t open from outside. Three faults, one cause: the wiring loom that runs through the door hinge had broken from twenty years of opening and closing — and someone had already repaired it once, by twisting the wires together and wrapping them in tape.

We cut the old joint out, soldered in new sections with enough slack to flex properly, and sealed them. Window, locking and boot all working the same day. He was on the golf course the next morning.
